The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched solar-powered street lights in the Ogoni communities of Bodo, Biera, and Bera, aimed at enhancing local economic value, reducing crime, and promoting nightlife.

During the inauguration, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku highlighted plans to expand the initiative to more communities in the Niger Delta.

He also emphasised the need for the Federal Government to negotiate the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoni land, which could lead to employment and industrialisation benefits for the local population.

King Festus Babaa Baigia of the Gokana Kingdom expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and praised Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership.

He noted that installing street lights has positively impacted security and commerce, enabling businesses to thrive at night.

The king urged the Federal Government to implement more development projects in Ogoni and assured the community would collaborate with authorities to safeguard the facilities.
