The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported several significant drug seizures and arrests over recent weeks.

In Onitsha, Anambra State, businessman Ibeanusi Solomon Nosike, 36, was apprehended at the Lagos International Airport’s domestic terminal on August 8. Nosike was attempting to board a flight to Abuja, where he planned to connect to a Qatar Airways flight to Vietnam. Following his arrest, Nosike underwent a 12-day observation period, during which he excreted 68 wraps of cocaine, totaling 1.282 kilograms.

In a separate incident, on August 12, NDLEA operatives at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport arrested 54-year-old Paul Okwuy Mbadugha. Mbadugha, also en route to Vietnam, tested positive for cocaine ingestion. After four days under observation, he expelled 88 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.710 kilograms.

In another case, NDLEA operatives seized a consignment of 1.20 kilograms of cannabis destined for Dubai. The drugs were concealed in a package and sent via a courier company from Onitsha. The intended recipient, Aligbo Chukwudi Jacob, was arrested on August 17 following an investigation that led to his capture in Onitsha.

On August 21, NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit apprehended five female drug traffickers at the Seme border, returning from Ghana. The leader of the group, 42-year-old Olaribigbe Bashirat Feyisara, along with Abogun Fatimah Ladidi, Osibeluwo Tolulope Oluwaseun, Akanni Balikis Oluwatoyin, and Ajetumobi Amudalat, were caught with 14 packs of Loud cannabis, weighing 6.97 kilograms.

In Lagos, operatives intercepted two containers at the Tincan seaport on August 23. The containers, shipped from Mundra port in India, contained 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup with 319,200 bottles valued at N2,234,400,000.

In Edo State, Martha Owotorofa and Odion Uzordinma were arrested for selling illicit drugs online. Owotorofa was caught at Kada Plaza in Benin City with Canadian Loud, while Uzordinma was detained in Ugbowo with 30 cups of cookies and 17 slices of cake laced with illicit substances. Additionally, a raid in Oghada village led to the arrest of Saturday Edobor, who was found with 288.8 kilograms of cannabis.

In Lagos, Godwill Davidson was arrested on August 21 with 3,834 bottles of codeine syrup, 5,200 Co-Codamol pills, and 11,880 Rohypnol tablets. In Kogi State, Yahaya Ibrahim was apprehended with 42,000 tramadol pills en route from Asaba to Potiskum.

Finally, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Feranmi Bankole and Fredrick Tobiloba were arrested at Pariz Lounge on August 20. They were found with 267.5 liters of skuchies, a mix of black currant and various illicit drugs, and 18 grams of Canadian Loud.

The NDLEA continues to intensify its efforts against drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
