The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, has assured serving corps members that their monthly allowances will be increased in line with the new minimum wage recently approved by the federal government for civil servants.
Addressing corps members at the Kebbi State Orientation Camp in Dakingari and the Sokoto State Orientation Camp in Wamakko, General Ahmed emphasized that the adjustment will be implemented as soon as civil servants begin to receive their updated salaries.
He acknowledged the significant contributions of corps members to the socio-economic development of Nigeria and urged them to use the service year as an opportunity for personal growth and future planning.
Additionally, he encouraged the corps members to participate in the NYSC skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme to gain vocational skills that could lead to self-reliance.
This announcement follows the recent agreement between the federal government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to set a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for Nigerian civil servants.
