Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), addressed concerns about the party’s alleged factionalism during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday. He emphasized that the party is committed to internal democracy and denied the existence of any factions within the NNPP.
Contrary to the party’s founding principles of creating space and choice for ordinary Nigerians, Dr. Aniebonam expressed disappointment over the party’s current state. He refuted accusations that he gave Rabiu Kwankwaso a platform in the party, asserting that the former governor has not hijacked the NNPP.
“The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) remains united, and any perception of factionalism is simply a reflection of our commitment to internal democracy,” Dr. Aniebonam stated firmly.
Reflecting on the party’s original purpose, he highlighted his intention to contribute to a better Nigeria, which he believes has been hindered by the involvement of Kwankwaso and others.
Addressing concerns about the party’s certificate, Dr. Aniebonam confirmed that he possesses the necessary documentation.
He dismissed Kwankwaso’s attempt to change the party’s logo as a distraction and criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not properly verifying the party’s original certificate before approving the logo change.
Urging caution, Dr. Aniebonam called upon INEC to exercise its responsibility diligently, emphasizing that the future of Nigeria’s democracy relies on the commission’s actions.
Furthermore, he stressed the need to empower the younger generation to take the lead, as he believes that the older generation has failed in their responsibilities to the Nigerian people.
