In a meeting gathering, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Niger South region expressed their desire for the party’s national chairmanship position to be reinstated in the North Central geopolitical zone.
Magana Bello, the Secretary of the Concerned Stakeholders of APC from Niger South, emphasized that the chairmanship was initially allocated to the North Central region. He lamented the ongoing neglect of the area and highlighted the lack of restitution since the leadership transition began.
Speaking at a press conference in Bida, Bello remarked, “The APC National Convention in 2022 designated the National Chairman role to the North Central zone, resulting in the election of Abdullahi Adamu. However, after Adamu’s resignation in 2023, the position was filled by Ganduje from Kano in the North West, leaving our region unrepresented at the highest levels of the party.”
The stakeholders are now advocating for what they perceive as justice for their zone. They are urging party leaders to rally behind the initiative to restore the National Chairmanship to the North Central region. Furthermore, they have endorsed Professor Mohammed Kailani, a prominent political figure, to run for the national chairmanship of the APC.
Bello outlined Kailani’s credentials, noting that he is a seasoned politician and academic from the Umaru Majigi (B) ward in Bida Local Government. Kailani has previously run for Governor and House of Representatives seats under the ANPP and has played a pivotal role in the success of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Tinubu/Shettima Movement and serves as the Director of Media and Publicity for the One Nation for Tinubu/Shettima Movement.
The secretary of the APC stakeholders made an appeal to President Tinubu, urging him to address the zoning concerns and facilitate the return of the National Chairmanship to the North Central region at the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
