President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light for the allocation of funds necessary for the swift establishment of the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Institute, which Nigeria has been designated to host by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Idris shared this news during a meeting in Paris with Dr. Tawfik Jelassi, the UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, on the sidelines of President Tinubu’s state visit to France.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown exceptional support for the initiation of this project and has approved the release of all funds needed for the immediate operational launch of the Institute, which will be situated in the Federal Capital Territory,” Idris stated.

Reflecting on his prior discussions with Dr. Jelassi in 2023, the Minister expressed Nigeria’s appreciation to UNESCO for the privilege of hosting a Category 2 MIL Institute, which stands as the only one of its kind globally.
