The Nigerian Army is set to receive its first batch of fighter aircraft today, Thursday, the exact number of arriving aircraft is not yet disclosed, this delivery marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian Army Aviation.

According to a notice from the Army Headquarters, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, will inaugurate the aircraft for operational use immediately upon their arrival in Nigeria.

The notice stated, “The Nigerian Army Aviation is set to take delivery of its first batch of aircraft today. The Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja will subsequently launch the aircraft into operations upon arrival in Nigeria.”

In September 2023, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja revealed that the Federal Government had approved the purchase of 12 MD 530F Cayuse Attack Helicopters.

This acquisition aims to enhance the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Army in addressing the ongoing security challenges in the country.

He emphasized that these helicopters would significantly bolster the Army Aviation’s ability to respond effectively to contemporary and emerging security threats.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria in support of the operationalization of Nigerian Army Aviation has approved the acquisition of the initial 12 MD 530F Cayuse Attack Helicopters that will actualize the operationalization of the Nigerian Army Aviation to effectively tackle security challenges bedeviling the country,” Lagbaja was quoted as saying.

The acquisition of these new attack helicopters is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to boost the operational capabilities of the Army Aviation, enhancing its response to insecurity across the nation.
