Hon. Obi Aguocha, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, recently paid a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.
The purpose of Aguocha’s visit was to seek the intervention and support of President Buhari in initiating a political dialogue and constructive engagement to resolve the issues surrounding the continued detention and trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Expressing regret for the past actions and statements made by his constituent and brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Hon. Aguocha extended his apologies.
He firmly believed that a political resolution would not only address the concerns of all parties involved but also foster greater understanding and unity within the country.
Former President Buhari warmly welcomed Hon. Obi Aguocha, commending his humility and commitment to serving his constituents. He assured Aguocha that he was open to any political solution that would lead to the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
It is worth noting that Hon. Aguocha recently led a group of fifty House of Representatives legislators from various political and ethnic backgrounds in signing a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The letter appealed for the intervention of the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, Alhaji Lateef Fegbemi, SAN, in utilizing relevant constitutional provisions to pave the way for a desired outcome.
This meeting is part of a comprehensive initiative aimed at expediting a political resolution to address the issues surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s detention and trial, with the ultimate goal of securing his release.
The approach is rooted in promoting dialogue and non-contentious approaches to resolving complex national issues. It acknowledges Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s willingness to embrace cooperation across the country in building a new Nigeria, characterized by peace, equity, justice, and prosperity.
