The Senate Committee on Power has commenced an investigative hearing on electricity tariff hike in the country.

The investigative hearing is taking place at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The Senate had said it would punish anyone or agency found culpable of adding to the burden and sufferings of Nigerians.

While speaking at the investigative hearing on Monday, chairman of the committee, Senator Eyinnaya Ababribe, said the investigative hearing was hinged on two motions presented at plenary on Tuesday, 25 July 2023 and Wednesday, 21st February 2024.

He said the Senate by its resolutions mandated the Committee on Power to “engage with the Federal Ministry of Power, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and other stakeholders.”

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and other top officials in the power sector were at the hearing.
