The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In a weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region on Monday, and morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Borno states.
“Thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening over parts of Zamfara, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Borno, Kano, Taraba, and Adamawa,” NiMet stated.
For the North Central region, NiMet anticipates cloudy skies with sunshine intervals and morning thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa state. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Benue states.
The southern states are expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with morning rains in parts of Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states, followed by thunderstorms across the entire region later in the day.
On Tuesday, NiMet forecasts a mix of clouds and sunshine over the northern region, with morning thunderstorms in parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Taraba states. In the afternoon, thunderstorms are anticipated in Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Kaduna, Yobe, Taraba, Adamawa, and Jigawa states.
The North Central region is expected to have patches of clouds and sunshine intervals, with morning thunderstorms in parts of Kwara and Niger states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are forecasted for the FCT, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Niger states.
For the southern states, NiMet predicts a cloudy atmosphere with morning thunderstorms in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, followed by rain over most parts of the region later in the day.
On Wednesday, NiMet anticipates a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds over the northern region, and afternoon thunderstorms in parts of Borno, Taraba, and Adamawa states. The North Central region will have patches of clouds and sunshine intervals, with afternoon thunderstorms in Plateau, the FCT, Niger, Kwara, and Nasarawa states.
The southern states are expected to start the day with a cloudy atmosphere, followed by rain across the entire region later in the day.
NiMet has urged the public to take precautions as strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely. Airline operators are advised to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.
