Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major, the National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has leveled serious accusations against former party leader Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya faction, claiming they are engaged in blackmail and efforts to undermine the party.
During a press briefing in Abuja on, Dr. Major made clear the reason for his party’s decision to expel Kwankwaso and his supporters, warning them against any actions that might disrupt public order.
He alleged that the Kwankwasiyya group had recently approached the Speaker of the House of Representatives, seeking to replace Deputy Minority Leader Rt. Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki with an individual who, according to party records, is not affiliated with the NNPP.
“This move reveals a blatant misunderstanding of how the esteemed Green Chamber operates. Despite their departure from our party, they continue to attempt to destabilize the NNPP’s presence in the National Assembly,” he stated.
Highlighting concerns regarding potential breaches of public peace, Dr. Major urged security agencies, particularly in Kano State, to investigate and thwart any disruptive actions posed by the Kwankwasiyya faction.
“This group is notorious for its recklessness, public disorder, and illegal activities. We call on security forces to uphold the law, especially following the recent court ruling that affirmed their expulsion,” he asserted.
Dr. Major further disclosed that petitions have been filed with security agencies against Senator Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, and other leaders associated with the Kwankwasiyya group to preempt any breakdown of law and order.
He referenced a recent ruling from the Abia High Court that returned management of the party to its Board of Trustees (BOT), led by its founder, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam. He emphasized that only communications signed by the BOT Chairman or the recognized party leadership would be acknowledged by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“We implore the Honorable Speaker to only recognize letters signed by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam or the recognized leadership duo of Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major and Comrade Sunday Olaposi Oginni,” he added.
Dr. Major condemned what he called the Kwankwasiyya group’s unlawful attempts to summon Rt. Hon. Madaki and Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum for disciplinary actions.
“Both individuals have long distanced themselves from the Kwankwasiyya group, as evidenced by video confirmations. The group has no right to act on behalf of the NNPP,” he remarked.
The party has warned that any actions taken by the Kwankwasiyya faction against NNPP members would be deemed invalid, reiterating that the group’s leaders have no authority within the party following their expulsion.
Dr. Major praised the performance of the 10th House of Representatives, asserting that the NNPP will not tolerate any actions that threaten its members’ roles or undermine democratic values.
“We cannot remain passive while those opposed to democracy engage in activities that could lead to confusion. The NNPP stands for the rule of law, constitutional governance, and integrity,” he concluded.
The NNPP reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining internal stability and urged all stakeholders to respect the court’s ruling and the party’s leadership. The party also committed to advancing the development of democracy in Nigeria.
Comrade Sunday Olaposi Oginni, the party’s Secretary, echoed Dr. Major’s sentiments, declaring that Kwankwaso has become more of a liability than an asset to the party.
