As Ondo State gears up for its local government elections scheduled for January 18, 2025, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced the commencement of the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for aspiring candidates.
Oluwafemi Olaleye, the State Publicity Secretary, shared this news through an official statement, emphasizing the party’s readiness for the upcoming electoral process. The sale of these forms will kick off on September 30, 2024, and will remain open until October 18, 2024.
Olaleye urged all potential candidates to seize this opportunity to secure their positions in various local government roles throughout the state.
In a bid to encourage wider participation, the party is offering a remarkable 50% discount on nomination forms for specific groups, including women, Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), and youths aged 30 and below. This initiative aims to facilitate their engagement in the democratic process at the grassroots level.
The NNPP has also introduced a standardized fee for the Expression of Interest forms to further promote inclusivity and accessibility.
“With optimism, we believe that the upcoming local government elections will provide the NNPP with a chance to introduce a new governance model centered on development, transparency, and accountability,” stated Olaleye. The party is committed to empowering a diverse array of candidates who can effectively represent the interests of all segments of society, reinforcing its dedication to grassroots democracy.
Olaleye expressed excitement about the opening of the application portal, labeling it a crucial moment for individuals eager to serve their communities and effect change within local governance.
“We recognize that a government truly reflective of its constituents must encompass perspectives from all backgrounds. This initiative underscores our commitment to inclusivity and the principle that everyone has a vital role in shaping the governance of their communities,” he remarked.
He added, “We understand that financial hurdles may discourage many capable individuals from seeking office. Through these rebates, we aim to empower women, PWDs, and youth under 30 to actively participate in our democratic process.”
The NNPP encourages all aspiring candidates to embrace this opportunity for leadership, stating, “Your community needs you, and this is your chance to make a meaningful difference.”
