The majority of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) caucus in the House of Representatives has passed a vote of no confidence in Ali Madaki, the lawmaker representing the Dala Federal Constituency, leading to his removal as Deputy Minority Leader.
This decision comes after Madaki chose to distance himself from the Kwankwasiyya movement, which is associated with NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, opting instead to pledge his loyalty to the party’s founding figure, Boniface Aniebonam.
The resolution to oust Madaki was formally supported by 15 NNPP lawmakers who signed the motion. Only three lawmakers—Alhassan Rurum (Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure), Abdullahi Sani (Karaye/Rogo), and Madaki himself—voted against the removal.
In a letter, addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, the NNPP leadership put forward Tijjani Jobe, who represents the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimingado Federal Constituency, as Madaki’s successor.
The letter, signed by NNPP National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed and Secretary Dipo Olayoku, read, “The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) extends greetings to you, the leadership, and all members of the House of Representatives. We are writing to propose the name of our party’s most senior member, HON TIJJANI ABDULKADIR JOBE, to take over the position of Hon Aliyu Sani Madaki as Deputy Minority Leader.”
The NNPP urged the Speaker to address this matter promptly, emphasizing its significance for the party, its caucus, and the House of Representatives as a whole.
