As the political landscape heats up in Rivers State ahead of the local government elections on October 5, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is gearing up for a significant campaign kickoff. Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s national leader, will officially launch the campaign for NNPP candidates on September 21, 2024.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, is set to engage with enthusiastic supporters at the Bonny Women Hall playground, where he will rally support for the party’s candidates, particularly Ambassador Fubara Dagogo, who is vying for the chairmanship of Bonny Local Government Area, along with his running mate, Mrs. Kele Kabaka Brown-Momoh.
Ambassador Dagogo shared this news with reporters in Abuja on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of Kwankwaso’s visit. He believes it will send a powerful signal to political players in Rivers State as the elections approach.
The NNPP leader will be accompanied by notable figures, including Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and other national party leaders. Additionally, key political stakeholders from Rivers State, such as the NNPP’s state chairman Jon Godson Green, Hon. Henry Akul Holliday from the All Progressives Movement in Bonny, and Hon. Ibifaman Allwell Brown from the Rivers SIMplified Voter Caucus, are expected to attend the rally.
Political dynamics in Rivers State are evolving, with various factions seeking effective platforms ahead of the October 5 elections. Dagogo expressed confidence in the impact of Kwankwaso’s campaign launch, stating, “His Excellency, Musa Kwankwaso, is a formidable force in Nigerian politics. The people of Rivers, particularly those from Bonny Local Government Area, will be eager to hear his message.”
He added, “Our leader’s presence will help us make a strong statement in these elections, dispelling any misconceptions about the NNPP.”
Highlighting the diversity of Bonny Local Government Area, which hosts members from the Kwankwasiya Movement, Dagogo asserted that the NNPP has made significant inroads and is optimistic about victory in the upcoming polls.
Moreover, Dagogo pointed out that the candidacy has garnered support from various political factions in Rivers State, stating, “We have backing from members of the All Progressives Movement and the SIMplified Movement, which has bolstered our position in this race, especially since the governor has not endorsed any candidate for the elections.”
