The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has publicly criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for his alarming declaration to incite violence in Bauchi State and other regions in Northern Nigeria.

Labeling Wike’s comments as “bandit-like outbursts,” the coalition expressed that such statements are indicative of a troubling pattern throughout his political journey. In a statement issued by their national coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the CNG voiced serious concerns over the presence of someone with Wike’s temperament in a pivotal role within President Bola Tinubu’s government.

The coalition emphasized that Wike’s threats extend beyond mere words aimed at Bauchi; they are seen as a direct assault on the peace and stability of the entire Northern region. They asserted that Wike’s incendiary rhetoric would not be taken lightly and reaffirmed their readiness to challenge him or anyone else attempting to sow discord in Northern Nigeria.

The CNG condemned Wike’s promotion to a prominent federal position, characterizing it as a “tragedy for Nigeria.” They called on President Tinubu to reconsider the inclusion of individuals who exhibit such “volatile and unrefined” behavior in his administration, advocating for leaders who prioritize unity and peace instead of those who perpetuate division.

  • Wike had made his controversial remarks during a state Congress at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, where he threatened to “set fire” to the states of opposing governors. He declared, “Let me assure all of you, no one will take away the structure of the PDP from us. I pity those governors who think they can seize control. Prepare yourselves because I have the capacity to retaliate in your states.”

Wike further dismissed any concerns regarding his threats, asserting that as long as he knows someone is trying to interfere in Rivers State, they will face consequences, stating, “Whether you are from Bauchi, I don’t care; your hand will get burnt, and you will never sleep in your state.”
