The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has announced its decision to withdraw from the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, which was aimed at addressing the current state of affairs in Nigeria.
Instead, the group is urging Nigerian youths and student organizations to grant President Bola Tinubu additional time to implement his economic reforms. NEYGA, representing minority tribes in Northern Nigeria, acknowledged that many of the pressing issues facing the nation today are remnants of the previous administration under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Reflecting on their stance, the group emphasized that they did not engage in protests during Buhari’s tenure and have now recognized that demonstrations could potentially threaten national cohesion.
In a statement released by NEYGA’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Dan-Musa, on Sunday, the assembly encouraged Nigerians to allow Tinubu the opportunity to enact his reforms, which they believe are beginning to take effect and could lead to a more promising future.
“We urge other Arewa groups to understand that the challenges confronting Nigeria are a collective responsibility,” Dan-Musa stated.
He further remarked, “President Tinubu requires more time to execute his vision for the nation. The ongoing reforms instill hope for a brighter tomorrow.”
According to him, the administration under Tinubu signifies a new chance for meaningful change and progress in the country.
