The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has deployed 1,658 corps members to Anambra State for the 2024 Batch “B” Stream II orientation course.
During the swearing-in ceremony held on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp Umauwulu/Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area, State NYSC Coordinator Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma announced the deployment. Of the 1,658 corps members, 760 are male and 898 are female.
Mrs. Iruma assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the comfort of the corps members throughout the orientation course. She also highlighted the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program and called for the support and cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful orientation.
State Governor Charles Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, urged the corps members to contribute to his administration’s agricultural revolution aimed at addressing food shortages and promoting local consumption. Soludo stressed the need for collective efforts in agriculture to combat food scarcity.
In his address, the State Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, Hon. Patrick Aghamba, represented by Chief Engr. Martin Agbili, encouraged the corps members to learn the Igbo language to navigate their service year effectively.
The oath of allegiance was administered by Hon. Justice N.L. Oyeka, representing the State Chief Judge. The ceremony also featured a martial arts display by the NYSC Martial Arts group and was attended by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma Udeh, and other notable figures, including Heads of Federal Establishments in the state.
