The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has cautioned Corps members to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations governing their service year, warning that any form of misconduct will result in sanctions as outlined in the NYSC byelaws.
Brigadier General Ahmed issued this warning while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two Corps Members at the Niger State Orientation Camp in Paiko. The Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, conveyed the message in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
The Director-General emphasized that the NYSC program is not a haven for lawbreakers and that there are established rules that all Corps members must follow.
“The NYSC byelaws will be enforced for any infraction committed by any Corps member. Be law-abiding throughout your service year. You are expected to dress in accordance with the approved NYSC dress code, as improper dressing will attract sanctions,” he stated.
He further advised Corps members to avoid engaging in unnecessary and risky activities that could endanger their safety. “Be security conscious at all times and resist the temptation of accepting free rides,” General Ahmed added.
In addition, General Ahmed encouraged Corps members to contribute positively to their host communities by initiating projects that would enhance the quality of life for residents.
During the briefing, the NYSC Niger State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Wahab, reported to the Director-General that the Corps members have adapted well to camp life. She noted that they have shown a strong sense of responsibility, patriotism, and commitment to the ideals of the NYSC.
Mrs. Wahab also highlighted that camp officials are working collaboratively with Corps members, who are actively participating in all camp activities as good ambassadors of their institutions and families, ensuring a successful Orientation Course.
