Eight members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who unknown assailants kidnaped while traveling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State have been released.
NYSC Director-General, YD Ahmed, addressed the press on Friday, emphasizing the importance of safety for Corps members and urging them to avoid traveling at night.
He reaffirmed that the welfare and security of all NYSC members remain the scheme’s top priority.
Ahmed recounted the incident, saying, “You will remember when these Corps members were traveling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom to Sokoto. They were kidnapped on August 17, 2024, on Funtua Bisau Road in Zamfara State.”
He explained that the NYSC, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and traditional rulers, worked tirelessly to secure the release of the Corps members.
The Director-General also mentioned a meeting with the governor of Zamfara State, which played a crucial role in the operation.
