The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims circulating on social media that corps members’ bank accounts are being upgraded to accommodate the new N70,000 minimum wage.

According to the NYSC, no official directive has been issued to begin paying the new minimum wage to corps members or to upgrade their bank accounts.

In a statement released on Saturday, Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, dismissed the social media report as misleading and entirely false.

“The NYSC management has been alerted to misleading information circulating about the payment of a N70,000 minimum wage to corps members and any directives to upgrade their bank accounts. This information is completely unfounded,” the statement read.

The NYSC emphasized that there has been no directive from the relevant government authorities responsible for wage matters. Therefore, the NYSC cannot provide any updates on this issue.

Corps members, their families, and the general public are advised to disregard any such claims. The NYSC stressed that corps members should rely on official communication channels within the scheme and ignore unauthorized directives.

The NYSC also warned bloggers and social media influencers against issuing statements regarding the corps management without proper authorization.
