Afrobeats sensation Rema has been honored by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, with a prestigious royal plaque.

The Oba presented this special gift to Rema during his visit to the palace on Thursday, just before the singer’s highly anticipated homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium in Benin City.

This royal recognition follows another recent honor for Rema. On Wednesday, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced during a groundbreaking ceremony that the new 6,000-capacity Edo Arena would be named ‘Rema Dome’ in the artist’s honor.

Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, hails from Benin City and has consistently championed Edo State and the legacy of the ancient Benin empire through his music and performances.

His recent hit, “Benin Boys,” featuring fellow Edo-born star Shallipopi, is a heartfelt tribute to his hometown. In the song, Rema even mentioned that he deserved a medal from the Oba for his efforts in promoting the kingdom—a wish that seems to have come true.
