Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that his mother carried him in her womb for a prolonged 12 months due to the malevolent influence of witches and wizards.
He shared this revelation during the drama presentation titled “Aremu Omo Asabi,” held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The event was organized to mark the 66th anniversary of the passing of Obasanjo’s mother, Bernice Obasanjo.
According to Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo’s media aide, the drama performance took place at the main auditorium of the library and was a tribute to his mother.
In his recount, Obasanjo detailed the hardships his mother endured before his birth, attributing the prolonged pregnancy to supernatural interference. Despite the challenges, he expressed deep gratitude for the divine intervention that allowed him to be born.
“My mother endured a 12-month pregnancy due to the actions of witches and wizards. She had nine children, but only two of us, my sister and I, survived. I was the only one to receive an education, as my father did not see the value in educating a female child, believing her place was in the kitchen,” Obasanjo revealed.
He lamented that his mother did not live to witness his achievements or enjoy the benefits of her sacrifices. In her honor, Obasanjo pledged his support for the drama troupe’s goal of setting a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous drama performance.
The drama highlighted the critical role of mothers and the enduring impact of their sacrifices. It also served as a call to action for society to support and honor mothers by ensuring their dreams for their children are realized through access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities.
