Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigeria’s leaders to effectively utilize the nation’s vast resources to foster development and progress.

During the 40th-anniversary celebration of the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja on Sunday, Obasanjo stressed that Nigeria possesses everything required for its prosperity.

Reflecting on the message delivered by Methodist Prelate Dr. Oliver Aba, Obasanjo highlighted the need to recognize and appreciate God’s blessings upon the nation.

“Just as God has endowed other nations with resources, He has similarly blessed Nigeria with an abundance of assets for its growth,” he remarked, drawing parallels between Nigeria’s resources and those of other countries. “While Egypt boasts the River Nile, Nigeria is home to the Rivers Niger and Benue, alongside rich crude oil reserves and fertile land.”

Obasanjo firmly stated his belief that Nigeria was not created to face struggles, asserting that the country has been gifted with all necessities for success. He emphasized the importance of gratitude, especially when many nations lack what Nigeria possesses.

He called upon leaders, religious figures, and citizens alike to engage in prayers for the healing of the nation, acknowledging that the current challenges faced are not a result of divine oversight.

“We have mismanaged God’s gifts, but if we approach Him with humility, He will restore our land,” Obasanjo asserted.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Mr. Nyesom Wike, also praised the Methodist Church of Nigeria for its commitment to social justice, education, and humanitarian efforts.

In his message of goodwill, Tinubu celebrated the church’s 40-year presence in Abuja, commending its significant contributions to the nation’s development through advocacy for social justice and educational initiatives.
