Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the people of Plateau State to come together in love and solidarity to tackle the various challenges facing their community.
Obasanjo made this plea during a thanksgiving event held in honour of the 16 members of the state’s House of Assembly who were recently dismissed by the Appeal Court. The gathering took place on Sunday at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN).
The former president was in Jos to partake in a three-day interdenominational unity Christmas carol and praise festival organized by the Plateau government, where he served as the guest of honour. Former head of state Yakubu Gowon was also present as the special guest of honour.
During his address, Obasanjo encouraged Plateau residents to set aside their political, religious, and ethnic differences, and to champion the peace initiatives put forth by the current administration.
“We must learn to manage our diversity to foster peace, as peace is essential for achieving progress, security, equity, and justice,” he stated.
He commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for fostering an environment of love, equity, and justice within his administration, noting that the governor’s approach to leadership includes showing kindness to both supporters and detractors alike.
“This is why I implore all citizens of Plateau to rally behind the governor to propel the state towards progress,” Obasanjo advised.
The former president also praised Governor Mutfwang for organizing the unity carol, emphasizing that such efforts would create a strong foundation for lasting peace and harmony in the state.
Obasanjo expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for inviting him, Gowon, and other distinguished Nigerians to the event, assuring his support for the governor’s success.
Earlier, Governor Mutfwang expressed his appreciation to Obasanjo for accepting the invitation to this significant event, despite his busy schedule.
