Yunusa Tanko, the national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has expressed confidence that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, has a good path to the presidency in 2027.

“Obi has the potential to become president in 2027 if we come together and strategize,” Tanko stated during a symposium organized by Obidients in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday, which focused on “Repositioning the Obedient Movement for Greater Impact.”

Emphasizing the importance of preparation, Tanko affirmed that the party would ensure its agents are well-equipped ahead of the next elections. “We will begin training and retraining our agents well in advance of the 2027 general election,” he mentioned.

He believes that a transformed Nigeria is achievable if citizens make informed electoral choices, claiming that Obi was the rightful winner of the 2023 general elections, but was thwarted by electoral malpractice.

Following the declaration of Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Labour Party and Obi took legal action to contest the results, asserting that the electorate was deprived of their true choice.

“During the 2023 elections, we faced accusations of lacking a structure, yet Peter Obi emerged as the winner despite being denied his victory due to fraudulent practices. This time, we will not allow history to repeat itself.”

Tanko maintained that a new Nigeria is within reach if the populace commits to electing capable leaders. “We are resolute in our mission to eradicate poor governance in Nigeria by ensuring that the right people hold office,” he declared.

Addressing the current state of the nation, Tanko noted that dissatisfaction with the APC-led administration spans across all regions, including the north.

“We will advocate for electoral reform through both legal and grassroots efforts. Our movement will mobilize support on the streets and in the courts, presenting our proposals to the National Assembly.”

He concluded by highlighting the Obidient Movement’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youths, emphasizing their advocacy for significant change, accountability, and the pursuit of good governance, justice, and equity.
