The Obidient Movement has rejected allegations of misconduct against Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate from the 2023 elections, concerning the conduct of the party’s primary for the upcoming governorship election in Edo State.
This response came in light of claims suggesting that the former governor of Anambra State, a staunch advocate for equitable political power distribution, may have compromised his beliefs to support Labour Party nominee, Olumide Akpata.
Tanko Yunusa, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, asserted in a statement on Thursday that the primary election was executed with utmost transparency, moderated by a local resident from Edo Central. He emphasized that only the people of Edo participated in the voting process, ultimately selecting Olumide Akpata as their candidate of choice.
Yunusa described Akpata as the most qualified candidate, stating, “Nigeria deserves its most exceptional leaders, and Olumide Akpata fits that bill perfectly!”
He highlighted Akpata’s distinguished history, including his leadership role as President of the Nigerian Bar Association, emphasizing his dedication to the rule of law and the protection of citizens.
“Placing blame on Peter Obi or anyone else is completely off base. This election centers around youthful vigor, capability, and effective leadership. Olumide Akpata embodies all these attributes.
“Alongside Alhaji Kadiri Asamah, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, they represent a strong alliance devoted to justice and the safety of Edo State residents. Olumide’s vision for a thriving Edo makes him the ideal gubernatorial candidate.
“Olumide Akpata possesses the necessary experience, knowledge, and passion to bring about meaningful change in Edo State. As dedicated Obidients, let’s unite in support of his campaign for governor!
Believe me, as the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Olumide Akpata is the right choice. He will engage with the youth and advocate for progress,” the statement concluded.
