Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, Rector of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa, has reaffirmed the institution’s ambitious plans to begin manufacturing drones, air conditioners, and other products in the near future.
Speaking on Wednesday, Dr. Oluseye urged corporate organizations and philanthropic individuals to provide support, stressing that funding for higher education should extend beyond government resources alone.
His remarks were made during a surprise event celebrating his first anniversary in office. Moved by the occasion, Dr. Oluseye expressed his gratitude, stating, “I never anticipated such a day. Since my appointment, I have focused on my duties and managing resources with care.”
Dr. Oluseye highlighted several achievements during his tenure:

- Staff Welfare: Salaries and other benefits for staff are paid on time.
- Facility Upgrades: New buildings and modern toilets have been constructed to discourage open defecation.
- Academic Progress: The institution has achieved 100% accreditation for its 36 existing programs, introduced 10 new academic programs, and is planning to venture into agriculture to support national food production.
Dr. Oluseye emphasized the polytechnic’s commitment to technological advancement, including ongoing training in robotics and drone manufacturing. He expressed hope for increased support through corporate grants, noting that while government support is valuable, higher education also benefits greatly from external funding.
Overwhelmed by the celebration, Dr. Oluseye pledged to continue his efforts with the support of staff, students, and management. The polytechnic has introduced new courses, including ND Nutrition and Dietetics, ND Food Technology, HND Biochemistry (SLT), HND Building Technology, HND Taxation, and HND Banking and Finance, among others.
Dr. Timothy Ogunseye, former National Vice Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, praised Dr. Oluseye for his achievements and encouraged a focus on enhancing academic excellence. He also suggested that the institution consider changing its name from “Institute” to “Polytechnic” to better reflect its status and capabilities.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Oba Abdulazeez Akinde, represented by Chief Musiliu Akinogun, and Chief Akeem Adigun from the institute’s governing council.
