Akintunde Armstrong, a prominent figure in the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has refuted claims that he imposed councilorship candidates for Iperu Wards 3 and 5 in Ikenne Local Government Area.

Reports surfaced on Thursday suggesting that Armstrong had allegedly used his financial influence to secure the candidacies of his loyalists, Olaleye Babatunde and Osularu Olabanjo Muyiwa, for the upcoming November 16 local government elections.

The reports also claimed that Armstrong had boasted that even Governor Dapo Abiodun, who hails from one of these wards, could not interfere with his plans.

On Friday, Armstrong dismissed the allegations as baseless, calling them “the ranting of rudderless opposition aimed at tarnishing my image, misleading the public, and scoring cheap political points.”

“I am totally shocked and surprised by these unfounded and outright falsehoods being peddled by some opposition elements,” Armstrong said. “How could someone in their right senses, given this harsh economy, be boasting about spending a whopping sum of $80,000, which cannot be less than N120 million, to impose councilorship candidates? It is sheer absurdity and lies from the pit of hell.”

Armstrong also dismissed claims that he had suggested the governor could not stop him. “His Excellency, Gov. Dapo Abiodun, is my leader and mentor; he is the leader of the party, and wherever he goes, I will also go,” Armstrong clarified.

He explained that the circulating video, which sparked the allegations, actually discussed funds allocated by the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda to support and empower party members across the state.

Armstrong reiterated his loyalty to the governor and the party, emphasizing his commitment to helping the APC secure a decisive victory in the upcoming local government elections.
