Tolulope Philips, the Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the 2023 election, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP leadership, including Hon Ladi Adebutu, the party’s former governorship candidate, welcomed Philips at a large gathering held at the party secretariat on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

Philips, along with hundreds of his loyal supporters, stated that he joined the PDP to support Adebutu’s efforts to bring change to the state in 2027. Speaking to newsmen, he expressed regret over his time in the Labour Party, noting that it had not produced the desired results.

“I realized that my time in the Labour Party was not yielding the desired results. I am hopeful that my move to the PDP will bring about the change I desire,” Philips said. “I am thrilled to be joining the PDP family. I am confident that this is the right decision for me and my supporters. I am grateful to my loyal supporters who have followed me to the PDP. I promise to work tirelessly to ensure that their trust in me is not misplaced.”

Philips expressed optimism about his prospects of winning the 2027 election on the PDP platform, stating, “I am confident that in 2027, the PDP will be victorious in the elections. I am eager to get started and make a meaningful impact in the lives of my constituents.”

Hon Ladi Adebutu, while welcoming Philips, emphasized the unity within the PDP and its readiness to succeed in the upcoming elections. “We will run PDP together in love till we get the goal. I advise Philips to stop wasting his money and join the PDP for progress. Imagine the number of votes he wasted in that election,” Adebutu remarked. “We are delighted to have Tolulope Philips join our party. We are confident that PDP will emerge victorious in the 2027 election.”
