The Ogun State Police Command has launched a search for the perpetrators responsible for the murder of Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Adeyinka, who was vying for the councillorship seat of ward 15 in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was fatally shot by suspected cultists in the early hours of Saturday.

According to reports, the assailants arrived in an unmarked vehicle, shooting Adeyinka at close range before brutally assaulting him with stones.

Aged 40, Adeyinka was known for his work in the transport union in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, stated that investigations into the killing have commenced. She assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Odutola further confirmed that the deceased’s body has been released to his family.

The murder has sparked outrage among APC youths in the state, who have condemned the act and are calling for justice to be served.

The Ogun State Police Command continues to pursue leads in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
