Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to elevate the Ojude Oba festival to an international level. Speaking at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode, he emphasized the festival’s transformation from a local celebration to an event attracting national and global attention.

Governor Abiodun highlighted that the festival, originally a gathering to honor the Awujale of Ijebuland, now symbolizes unity, hard work, and industry. He noted that it has become a major tourist attraction, showcasing Ijebuland’s culture and hospitality.

In support of this vision, the Federal Government is also stepping in. The Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa-Musawa, represented by Rev. Ben Ugo, announced a $100 billion economic expansion fund to promote cultural heritage. The goal is to make Nigeria a cultural hub by 2030. Additionally, there are plans to propose the Ojude Oba festival for inclusion in UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage list.

Governor Abiodun expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his interest in the festival’s expansion and commitment to preserving cultural heritage. He also highlighted the festival’s role in driving socio-economic development in Ogun State.

The governor called for unity and cooperation among the people to continue building a prosperous state. He also mentioned the upcoming 20th National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, to be hosted in Ijebu-Ode, urging support from the community.

Chief Olu Okuboyejo, Chairman of the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, thanked Governor Abiodun for his support and the people for their participation in the festival.
