Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed its full endorsement of President Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills.

The prominent socio-cultural organization representing the Igbo community made this announcement in a statement issued by its Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, on Sunday.

Isiguzoro revealed that the decision to support the tax reforms followed extensive consultations and discussions among stakeholders.

“In a strong affirmation of progress and economic empowerment, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the respected apex socio-cultural body of the Igbo nation, announces its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tax reform proposals. This endorsement is the result of thorough evaluations, detailed consultations with various stakeholders, and an in-depth review of the bill’s potential impact on Nigeria’s economic environment.

“Our analysis has led us to the firm conclusion that these tax reforms are more than just legislative initiatives; they represent a crucial opportunity for revitalizing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and enhancing the livelihoods of Nigerian workers. By addressing the issue of double taxation imposed by certain state governors, these reforms will create a fairer business environment, significantly increasing both local and foreign investment prospects.

“The Igbo people, known for our entrepreneurial drive and steadfast dedication to economic independence, stand to benefit greatly from these reforms. The proposed changes are anticipated to protect the private sector, particularly aiding industrious Igbos who are integral to the Nigerian economy through their vibrant SME activities. In a climate marked by fairness and transparent regulations, we believe the majority of the advantages resulting from these tax reforms will strengthen our efforts, promote growth, and create substantial business opportunities.

“Given these compelling benefits, Ohanaeze Ndigbo passionately urges all Southern Federal Lawmakers—both in the Senate and the House of Representatives—to rally together in support of President Tinubu’s transformative economic restructuring initiatives.”

“Our Southern legislators must unite beyond partisan lines to ensure the Tax Reform Bills successfully progress through both chambers of the National Assembly,” the statement concluded.
