The leading socio-cultural body for the Igbo people, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged for a greater share of ministerial positions for the South East region.
The organization argues that this area warrants more representation within the Federal Executive Council to ensure equitable distribution of appointments among Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
During a statement released over the weekend, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, stressed the importance of President Bola Tinubu acknowledging the South East with additional ministerial roles.
He highlighted the region’s wealth of skilled and competent Igbo individuals, citing the Minister of Works, Senator Umahi, who has played a pivotal role in advancing the President’s economic goals and reformative policies.
“To effectively shift Nigeria’s economy from a dependency on consumption to a robust production-oriented framework, it is crucial for President Tinubu to incorporate Igbo talent into his administration by appointing qualified professionals to key ministries. Such strategic decisions will change the prevailing narrative pushed by critics and stimulate positive results, thereby rebuilding the trust of Nigerians and alleviating regional grievances.”
Isiguzoro also advocated for the retention and promotion of committed leaders from the South East, viewing this as a crucial step toward strengthening national cohesion, enhancing economic stability, and achieving a hopeful future for all Nigerians.
“With Nigerians, and specifically the Ndigbo community, looking forward to tangible benefits from the bilateral agreements forged during President Tinubu’s landmark visit to China, we are optimistic about the economic revival these deals may bring. These agreements transcend mere diplomatic gestures; they represent significant and proactive initiatives aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s struggling economy. We see these commitments as bold promises that, if fulfilled with sincerity and diligence, will secure President Tinubu’s legacy in our national narrative, reaffirming his commitment to alleviating economic challenges and combating inflation.”
“Particularly, we are focused on one of the seven key agreements related to infrastructure development. With steadfast support from China, we are confident in the “Renewed Hope Infrastructure Revolution,” led by Senator Dave Umahi as Minister of Works. His esteemed guidance is expected to surpass expectations and bring about transformative progress in this sector. The Nigerian people can anticipate a renaissance in road infrastructure, designed for longevity and durability, representing Umahi’s dedication and expertise.”
