Chief Ugochukwu Nduwuisi, a prominent member of the Igbo socio-cultural organization Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former governors of Rivers State, along with their deputies, to intervene swiftly in the ongoing political stalemate in the state to seek a lasting resolution.

In a statement, Nduwuisi, who previously served as the founder and president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Spain, urged these former leaders to take a stand and facilitate a dialogue involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, the current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, to address the situation before it escalates.

Referring to the recent ruling by the federal high court that instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt further monthly allocations to Rivers State, Nduwuisi remarked, “The former governors and their deputies must act decisively now, inviting both parties to engage in discussions, possibly including President Tinubu in the mediation process.”

“This early intervention is crucial to prevent other states from adopting this flawed legal approach as a trend that could undermine the democratic fabric of the nation.”

He also cautioned judges to refrain from rushing to deliver judgments on certain cases, as doing so could compromise their integrity.

Nduwuisi reminisced about the commendable achievements of Nyesom Wike during his eight-year tenure as governor of Rivers State before his current appointment as FCT Minister.

He noted that Governor Fubara has taken over the leadership role with the intent to build upon the progress made by his predecessor, ensuring that the citizens of Rivers State and its residents continue to reap the benefits of democracy.
