Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has vowed to facilitate a fair and peaceful election for the upcoming leadership of the prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization.

Chukwu made this commitment during a ceremony in Owerri on Friday, where he inaugurated both the screening and election committees in preparation for the election set for January 2025.

His leadership comes after the passing of the previous president-general, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and Chukwu’s term is scheduled to conclude on January 10, 2025. According to the doctrine of necessity, the Imo Chapter of Ohanaeze, under the guidance of C.J. Ihemedu, presented Chukwu to the Imeobi Ohanaeze to serve out the remaining duration of a four-year mandate designated for Imo.

The Imo position faced significant challenges, notably following the deaths of George Obiozor in 2022 and subsequently Iwuanyanwu.

In his address, Chukwu urged the committee members to avoid nepotism and uphold the rule of law, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the Igbo nation’s longstanding reputation for excellence.

“We will not entertain excuses; your actions will be closely scrutinized. The future is in your hands, and you will be judged by history based on how you conduct this assignment,” he asserted.

In response, Ejiofor Onyia, the chairman of the committee, expressed gratitude to Chukwu for entrusting him and his fellow members with this important task. Onyia committed to striving for the successful realization of the organization’s objectives.
