The foremost socio-cultural organization of the Igbo people, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has expressed that President Bola Tinubu could solidify his legacy by ordering the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

During a reception for the President in Enugu ahead of his official visit, the President-General of Ohanaeze, Fidelis Chukwu, articulated this sentiment. His remarks were communicated through a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonna.

Chukwu praised Tinubu for what he referred to as a gradual shift in the federal government’s attitude towards the Igbo community. He pointed out initiatives such as the establishment of the South East Economic Commission, the appointment of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, and Senator David Umahi’s role as Minister for Works, along with the inclusion of notable Igbo figures in federal boards and agencies.

Ohanaeze hopes that during his visit to Enugu, President Tinubu will etch his name in the hearts of the Igbo people and other Nigerians by facilitating Kanu’s release. The group also lauded Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for his remarkable and innovative infrastructural advancements achieved in a short span of his administration.
