Doyin Okupe, a former presidential aide, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to Enugu State, calling it a transformative moment for the region. The president’s one-day visit on Saturday included the commissioning of various projects initiated by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, marking the first visit by a sitting president to the South-East in a decade.
In a statement, Okupe, who led the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 elections, noted that Tinubu’s visit signifies his commitment to addressing the needs of the South-East and ensuring that the region receives proper attention and support from the Federal Government.
He remarked, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Enugu is a pivotal change in the political landscape. It is clear for any unbiased observer to see the president’s genuine goodwill and affection toward the South-East.”
Okupe highlighted that Tinubu spoke sincerely and made notable pledges regarding support for developmental initiatives in the region. He referenced the late Igbo leader Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu’s long-cherished belief that the lack of an east-west political alliance poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s unity and stability.
“I urge the president to remain focused on alleviating the hardships faced by the people while continuing to foster connections across the nation to promote political stability and peaceful coexistence,” he concluded.
