The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Agboola Ajayi, emerged victorious at his polling unit during the ongoing Ondo State gubernatorial election.
Ajayi, who cast his vote at Apoi Ward II, Unit 004 in Kiribo, Ese Odo Local Government Area on Saturday, secured 194 votes. He defeated the incumbent Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who managed only 3 votes.
Ajayi, accompanied by his wife, arrived at the polling booth at 10:36 a.m. The couple was accredited at 10:45 a.m. amidst a heavy security presence, which included officers from the Nigerian Police Force and Civil Defence Corps. After casting their votes, they interacted briefly with voters before leaving the venue in their black Jeep.
Despite his victory, Ajayi expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the election. Speaking shortly after voting, he alleged widespread irregularities in the process and called for immediate rectification by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The election has been marked by allegations and counter-allegations, with various candidates raising concerns about transparency and fairness. Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa earlier cast his vote in Ilaje Local Government Area, urging voters to remain calm and allow their votes to count.
As the results continue to trickle in, stakeholders await the conclusion of what promises to be a fiercely contested election.
