In this transfer window, Napoli has been in constant contact with several football clubs, trying to secure a deal for nigeria goal-machine Victor Osimhen.

Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Saudi Clubs and the latest one Chelsea have all indicated interests in the forward but none has been reported to have agreed on a deal for the forward.

Despite all efforts to push for a deal for Osimhen, Napoli’s asking price for Osimhen has scared clubs away from the African footballer of the year.

Despite this, the Italian club remains adamant and unwilling to reduce the price for the forward, hoping that the right offer will arrive sometime.

While they continue to search for another club for the forward, Napoli’s stance remains clear that Osimhen must be offloaded to create a space for a new striker to arrive.

But why are they pushing so hard to cash-in on their 2022/23 top scorer?

TO HONOUR NAPOI-OSIMHEN AGREEMENT

Firstly, trying to honour their agreement they had in the summer of 2023/24 season for Osimhen to sign a new deal and stay with the club for another one season after helping them win their third Scudetto in the history of the club.

The deal which came with a release clause of €120 million if a club wants to sign the forward.

It is however a part of that deal, despite being a two-year extension deal that Osimhen WILL, as a matter of fact leave Naples this summer which is exactly what Napoli wants.

NAPOLI WANTS MONEY TO FORTIFY THEIR SQUAD

Victor Osimhen is and remains Napoli’s most-priced asset and will command a reasonable amount of money despite his deep in form last season.

Osimhen scored just 15 league goals last season, compared to his 26 goals in the 2022/23 title winning season.

His season was hampered by several injuries as the 15 goals were from just 25 matches coupled with three assists.

In his 2022/23 season, Osimhen played 32 Serie A games and found the back of the net in 26 occasions while also producing four assists.

Napoli wants to cash in to enable them to make some signings this summer.

TO MAKE NEW COACH CONTE HAPPY

Napoli’s new coach Antonio Conte has been very clear from day in office that he wants to bring his former payer Romelu Lukaku to Naples.

The Italian made a similar appeal to Inter Milan and it paid off as they won the Scudetto that season.

Osimhen leaving and Lukaku joining is a big gamble as Lukaku will come on a cheaper transfer fee than Victor Osimhen as well as differences in wages which have played a significant role in the deal to get Osimhen out of the club.

For Napoli, Osimhen should have been playing and not being treated with contempt, remembering his contribution in their 2022/23 Serie A winning campaign.
