Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole has made a bold declaration regarding the upcoming governorship election, asserting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate,
Asue Ighodalo, is not a viable choice for the Edo people. In a candid interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oshiomhole criticized Ighodalo’s suitability for the governorship role, questioning his connection with the local culture and his ability to lead effectively.
Oshiomhole did not mince words when discussing Ighodalo’s electability. He stated, “Asue Ighodalo is not electable; he can’t speak his own language. He went to his village but couldn’t sleep there because of witches and wizards. Edo people are wiser now.” This pointed critique highlights Oshiomhole’s belief that a strong cultural connection and local understanding are crucial for any gubernatorial candidate.
In addition to his comments on Ighodalo, Oshiomhole also addressed the recent controversy surrounding Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State. Shaibu, who had faced political challenges, has been welcomed back into the All Progressives Congress (APC) after seeking forgiveness and reconciliation. Oshiomhole detailed this reconciliation process during the interview.

“Shaibu came and knelt down before me; I didn’t ask him to do that. We have welcomed Shaibu back into the APC family. I have forgiven him and hope he has learned his lesson,” Oshiomhole said. He further emphasized the importance of forgiveness and the need to move forward positively. “If I don’t forgive him, why would I ask God to forgive me? Can I trust his future loyalty? That’s a matter of time,” he added.
This revelation underscores the dynamic and sometimes tumultuous nature of political alliances in Edo State. Oshiomhole’s willingness to forgive and reintegrate Shaibu into the APC highlights his pragmatic approach to political unity and strategy.
