The Osun State Government has confirmed a monkeypox (Mpox) outbreak in the Ilesa-West local government area.
This was announced by the Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, in a statement released through the Ministry of Information bulletin on Monday.
Akintola reassured residents of Ilesa and the entire state not to panic, emphasizing that the situation is under control and being effectively managed by the state government.
Residents are urged to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of transmission and to report any suspicious symptoms to health authorities.
The State Government has also activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to contain the spread of the disease. “We successfully managed COVID-19 and prevented a cholera outbreak. Now, with two confirmed Mpox cases, the EOC has been activated, and stakeholders will meet every Monday to strategize on preventing the virus from spreading,” Akintola stated.
