The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has called upon its members to maintain peace and uphold high standards as they approach the upcoming primaries.
Sunday Bisi, the chairman of Osun PDP, made this appeal in a statement he personally signed on Friday. This announcement comes in light of the PDP’s preparations to hold a primary election for candidates contesting for local councillor seats on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
The primary elections will take place across all 332 wards in the state. Additionally, the party will conduct chairmanship primaries on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the headquarters of all 30 local governments in the region.
DAILY POST reminds readers that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has scheduled local government elections for Saturday, February 22, 2025. The purpose of the primaries is to select candidates for chairmanship and councilorship within the legally recognized 30 local government areas.
Bisi emphasized the importance of cooperation among aspirants, their supporters, electoral officials, and security personnel overseeing the primaries. He warned that any acts of violence during or after the elections would not be tolerated by the State Working Committee of the party.
In his statement, he urged all party supporters to adhere strictly to legal guidelines and conduct themselves appropriately during the primaries. “There is no place for violence within a family like the PDP, especially in a constitutional exercise of this nature,” he remarked.
He assured that the party had implemented necessary measures to ensure a seamless process, as directed by their leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, during the last stakeholders meeting.
“We are optimistic that this exercise will yield the best candidates and secure victory for our esteemed party in the upcoming local government elections,” he concluded.
Bisi also reminded that any aspirants who violate the party’s guidelines, electoral laws, and constitutional provisions regarding the primaries could face disqualification.
