A medical practitioner in Osun State, who has been accused of raping a teenage girl, has made a plea for bail weeks after being detained. The accused, who is identified as Shakiru Olayode, has appeared before the court seeking bail, citing the extended period of incarceration as the basis for the request.

The court session drew significant attention as the defendant’s legal team argued that their client’s prolonged detention without trial had led to undue hardship. They emphasized the need for bail to ensure the accused’s ability to prepare for their defence adequately.

The prosecution, however, opposed the bail request, urging the court to consider the gravity of the charges and potential flight risk. The case has sparked considerable interest in the community, with many awaiting the court’s decision on whether the accused will be granted bail or remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The court is expected to deliberate on the bail application and provide a ruling in the coming days.
