A resident of Ifetedo in Osun State, identified as Mrs. Idowu, tragically lost her life when a dilapidated building collapsed in the town. The structure, which had long been in disrepair, suddenly caved in, burying the woman beneath the rubble.

Eyewitnesses reported that Idowu was the only person inside the building when the incident occurred. Ogunyemi, a local resident, said that officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were quick to respond to a distress call, arriving at the scene to assist with rescue efforts.

“NSCDC operatives rushed to the scene after being alerted. They were joined by other members of the community. Unfortunately, Idowu was already dead when they retrieved her from the collapsed structure,” Ogunyemi said.

The collapse, which took place in the Omiloode Area of Ifetedo, sparked panic among residents, who described the building as a longstanding hazard.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer for Osun State, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the tragic event, stating that security personnel swiftly cordoned off the area to prevent further danger.

“At approximately 17:30 hours on Tuesday, a dilapidated building along Omiloode Street collapsed, killing Mrs. Idowu. Despite efforts to rescue her, she was found dead under the debris. The site was secured immediately to ensure public safety,” Adeleke said.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of aging structures in the area, as residents call for urgent action to prevent similar tragedies.
