A tragic incident has plunged Abia State into mourning after Ocheze Ogbonna, a crane operator at Inner Galaxy Steel Company, died in an alleged act of violence. Local lawmaker Chris Nkwonta expressed profound grief and demanded swift action from authorities.

Reports indicate Ogbonna was allegedly pushed from a crane by a Chinese co-worker. While the motive remains under investigation, Nkwonta suggested it may be linked to unwanted romantic advances.

This incident follows another recent case involving a Chinese national accused of killing his Nigerian girlfriend. The lawmaker condemned the act, calling it a “devastating loss” and a violation of the “sanctity of human life.

Nkwonta emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and accountability. He urged law enforcement officials, including the Inspector General of Police and the Abia State Commissioner of Police, to take necessary steps.

The lawmaker also called for the intervention from the Ministry of Labour and Productivity and the Trade Union Congress. He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of Nigerian workers and upholding the law.

Ocheze Ogbonna’s death has sparked outrage and a demand for justice. The case has also ignited concerns about the treatment of Nigerian workers by some Chinese expatriates.Â
