In order to stop a possible cholera epidemic in the state, the Oyo State Government issued a call for increased vigilance and the adoption of preventive measures on Saturday in Ibadan.
Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, the state’s commissioner of health, made the call when she was visiting two patients at a private Ibadan hospital who were reportedly cholera patients.
She made the point that cholera is a bacterial sickness that is contracted by consuming or drinking food or water tainted by an infected person’s excrement.
According to Ajetunmobi, cholera is extremely contagious and can result in severe diarrhea and dehydration. It can also induce fever, nausea, and copious vomiting.
“Male workers at a construction site at Lekki Peninsula in Lagos State are the two suspected cases in Ibadan, which have been tracked down to a private facility.”
Nonetheless, she reassured that there was no need for concern because the Ministry and other partners were handling things.
Ajetunmobi said that the Ministry’s efforts on behalf of the state government were focused on making sure the state does not document any deaths related to the cholera epidemic in Lagos State.
The Cholera Technical Working Group was immediately established, active isolation management centers were set up, gatekeepers and other well-established community structures were made aware of the situation, and promotional jingles in both English and Yoruba were broadcast in various media outlets, according to the spokesperson.
As a result, the Commissioner made a plea to everyone to exercise caution when handling water, to only consume it from hygienic sources, and to regularly wash their hands with soap and water.
She cautioned anyone experiencing any of the symptoms to see the closest medical institution instead of self-medicating. right away
