Nigerian pastor Abel Damina has criticized gospel musicians for incorporating elements of spiritism and voodoo into their music.

While addressing his congregation, Damina, who has previously spoken out against practices like tithing, argued that modern gospel music often includes chants and terms that go against biblical teachings.

He said, “I’ve noticed that some music ministers are now using chants. What is chanting? Repeating the same lines for over an hour and calling it spiritual. This is spiritism, voodoo, and Satan sneaking in through the back door under the guise of music. We need to correct these things to prevent people from being misled.

Every song, teaching, or message should only be considered inspired if it aligns with the inspired word of God. I don’t care who the songwriter is. If their lyrics don’t match God’s word and are in the public domain, we will critique and challenge them.”

Damina continued, “Take the song ‘Channels of my spirit open.’ What channels? Even in the Old Testament, there is no mention of having channels in your spirit. What are you, a monster?”
