Students from public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom are now in the prestigious Imperial College, London.

They are in the UK for a study tour sponsored by the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno as part of the educational investment drive of his ARISE agenda.

Imperial College is the only UK university to focus entirely on science, engineering, medicine and business with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research.

The Akwa Ibom-United Kingdom Education Trip is the government’s incentivization strategy to expose the children to science, medicine, engineering and business to improve academic performance in public schools in addition to the provision of infrastructure, payment of examination fees, bursaries, scholarships and grants for students.

The budding stars who were received by the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom at the Nigeria House in London, are from public schools in rural communities across the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

After the Imperial College, which is rated in the top 10 universities worldwide, the students will also visit the famous University of Cambridge and Coventry University, National Maritime Museum, Royal Observatory, National Arts Gallery, Science Museum and the Museum of Natural History.

Governor Umo Eno had met with the students where he advised them to make the best use of the opportunity, promising them continuous support beyond the trip.

The trip is led by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, supported by the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong and the Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon.
