Former England Midfielder Paul Scholes has recommended Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to be the next head coach of the Three Lions.

After what was termed a disappointing era under coach Gareth Southgate, Scholes believed that the team had played together for enough time to win a silverware.

Speaking to Sky Sports football, the Manchester United legend was disappointed in England’s defeat to Spain in the Euros final and believed Guardiola has enough technical ability to get the team over the line.

“I don’t want to say it, but somebody like Pep would get these players over the line!” Scholes said.

Scholes made his England debut at 22 years back in 1997 under Glenn Huddle and went on to make 66 appearances for the Three Lions while scoring 14 times as a deep lying Midfielder.

He has played nine world cup matches for England and as well as seven games at the Euros with a combined three goals in that 16 appearance before he hanged his boots.

England are currently without a coach after Gareth Southgate resigned after losing the European final but Scholes believes Guardiola can guarantee England a major trophy which they have all been longing for.
