The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed an alleged scheme targeting its Secretariat and campaign offices, indicating a serious escalation in political tensions.
According to the Osun PDP, this purported plan is an attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the peace in the region. The party has alerted local security forces regarding the situation.
In a statement issued by Sunday Bisi, the chairman of Osun PDP, it was revealed that the plot was uncovered late Thursday night. Following this disclosure, security agencies rapidly deployed personnel to thwart any potential arson attempts.
“We call on the Police and Secret Service to interrogate state APC leaders to prevent any disturbances in Osun State,” urged Bisi. “If opposition leaders are not questioned promptly, the state could be at risk from a group that seems willing to commit acts of violence for political gain.”
Bisi further warned, “State APC leaders should understand that security reports concerning this malicious plot have reached Abuja, and they will be held accountable for any potential chaos in Osun.”
The Osun PDP believes the opposition is alarmed by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s adept management of recent national protests without incident. “We caution against the malicious factions within the APC who may seek violence and destruction as a means to discredit the state government,” Bisi added.
The party particularly condemned the state APC Chairman for engaging in cyber harassment and personal attacks against Governor Adeleke, labeling such behavior as both immoral and unacceptable.
Bisi called on security agencies to take action against the ongoing cyberstalking and disrespect directed towards the Governor’s office by the APC chairman. He emphasized their readiness to pursue legal remedies if the harassment continues.
While assuring the citizens of Osun State of ongoing peace and stability despite the APC’s activities, Bisi affirmed that the state government is closely observing the protest climate, committed to preserving Osun’s reputation as a peaceful region amid national unrest.
In a counter-response, the Osun APC accused hoodlums allegedly linked to Governor Adeleke of planning to set fire to its Secretariat in Osogbo. APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal urged security agencies to remain vigilant against these alleged plots.
Lawal asserted that these individuals are disguising themselves as protesters during the national demonstrations in order to attack the APC’s facilities, including the Ileri Oluwa House, which served as the campaign headquarters for Tinubu/Shettima.
He claimed that the APC has legitimate reasons to suspect that Adeleke is orchestrating protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “We have credible intelligence indicating that Governor Adeleke is arming his supporters to embarrass President Tinubu during these protests,” Lawal stated.
“There are serious allegations linking the governor to inciting unrest in Osun State, with some of his appointees and PDP leaders allegedly playing central roles in the protests in Osogbo on Thursday and Friday.”
The APC has informed the state Police Command and other security services to remain wary of what they describe as a sinister plot by PDP loyalists posing as protesters aiming to damage the APC’s state Secretariat and the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Secretariat in Osogbo.
